A few years ago we had the fun idea to make chocolate dipped potato chips. Unfortunately it wasn't a product we could make in the long run, but they are super easy to make at home if you are a fan, that way you can experiment with different types of chocolate and chips. We also think they make a great Father's Day gift you can make yourself.
Equipment:
- Microwave Proof Bowl
- Spatula
- Oven or cookie trays
- Baking paper
Ingredients:
Your choice of...
- Dark Chocolate Drops or
- Milk Chocolate Drops
- Potato Chips
- Sea salt of chili flakes to sprinkle in top.
Method:
Because you aren't creating chocolates how fluid the chocolate isn't too important so you can use the method of melting your chocolate in a microwave without losing it's temper. Kirsten Tibbles of Savor in Australia suggests using this method and I used this for the chips in my photo, it worked great.
I used our milk and dark chocolate chocolate drops. These are already tempered so I just heat them in a way that means they don't lose their temper. To do this I placed half a bag (approximately 250g) in a microwave proof bowl. I place them on medium power in the microwave for 30 second bursts stirring well between each burst. Once you reach the stage where the chocolate drops are half melted, stop microwaving and just stir until smooth remembering to scrape the sides of your bowl.
Cover oven trays in baking paper. Open your choice of chips and dip half of the chip in your melted chocolate. Place on your baking paper covered oven tray. Once you have completed a tray place in the fridge until the chocolate pulls away from the paper easily.
Store in an airtight container.
As you can see you can also sprinkle with your choice of seasoning (I chose chili flakes) sprinkle on while chocolate is still melted before you pop in the fridge.
